About
Studio Six Theater Company
Studio Six was born in 2005 from the vision of Anatoly Smeliansky, former Dean of the Moscow Art Theater School, and the passion of Alexander Popov alongside the first American graduates of the School-Studio’s four-year conservatory program. Studio Six served as a vital bridge between formal training and professional stage practice—a space where ensemble artistry, interpretive freedom, and creative risk could flourish. Smeliansky describes the Sixth Studio as a living continuation of the Moscow Art Theater’s pedagogical tradition, proving that the studio model can nurture professional growth without the confines of aesthetic dogma. Honoring that legacy, Studio Six carries forward a spirit of discovery—transforming classical craft into bold, contemporary storytelling that unites artists and audiences across cultures.
